Constant Changes Chp. 1

First fanfiction piece...ever. AND it's Matt & Mello! Here goes nothing...

     "Quit it Mels," Matt breathed angrily. He could hear the sharp snap of the chocolate breaking between his friend's teeth. On a normal day, he would have ignored it. Today, it only helped to piss him off.

      He could feel the glare coming off Mello. The guy was just so friggin' physical! Matt pushed in closer to the screen. There was something he had caught, a line of code that was missing. If any other person had been looking at the image, they would have brushed it off as a computer glitch. But not Matt. No, he knew a text deletion when he saw it. The screen blinked in a steady rhythm. The snapping resumed across the room.

      "Mel..." Matt didn't take his eyes off the screen.

      He had to find the other missing text. It would be the deciding factor in their current case. If Matt could locate the missing information, he would know exactly who the killer was. The down town Chicago area had been hit especially hard: a killer known as "Cross Cut" had already murdered seven women within the past week, carving an X in their chest to prove they had been his. The killer had hacked into the women's work computers using a program that until recently, Matt had been unable to track down. Now that he had it, he could pinpoint where the hack came from and where Cross Cut would be arrested.

       SNAP.

       Matt closed his eyes briefly. Mello had not been out of their apartment in two days. He was to wait until they had the information Matt needed to apprehend the criminal. Lately, he stayed pretty close to balcony. Apart from the occasional cussing from playing Matt's new PSP game, he had maintained a certain level of silence as Matt worked. It had been a peaceful arrangement until Matt found the computer error (which required more of his attention than normal) and Mello took it upon himself to stay in the same room, snapping away at a chocolate bar.

       SNAP. SNAP.

       "Mihael!" The name exploded from his lips. Matt's head shot up to the couch that, until that moment, he could have sworn was occupied by the blonde. Something solid pushed against his head and instinctively he knew it was Mello's gun.

        "I heard you the first time." The gun made a loud clicking sound as Mello pulled back the hammer. "And you will refrain from shouting that name." He hissed out the final warning before removing the gun from Matt's head.

        Matt turned in his seat. Anger rippled from him in waves, directed at the now cool blonde who silently unwrapped a new candy bar. It wasn't the first time that Matt had had a gun turned on him. With Mello around, it wasn't likely to be the last time either. But it was new for Mello to pull the weapon out as easily as he had and then to return it as if nothing had transpired.

        "What the hell Mello?" Matt took a nearby book and threw it hard. Mello ducked, the book crashing into the wall behind him. His opaque eyes took in Matt's glare. He shrugged and turned back toward the couch.

        "I got bored," came Mello's reply and with that he threw himself back onto the overstuffed piece of furniture. Matt rolled his eyes angrily and turned his attention back to the screen. Some things with Mello were too intense for Matt to deal with. He mentally pushed back the issue and tried to regain his focus. If he could just find that other code then he would be in the clear. It couldn't take that much longer to find, he simply needed silence in order to do it. He leaned in closer to the screen.

       SNAP.
